Why do people continually throw their hearts out to be trampled?

I watch the dating game that goes on around me. I see so much pain and suffering, I wonder why people keep doing the same stupid stuff. Girls move from one guy to the next, doing the same things, hoping it will turn out different, but it doesn't. Does there ever come a point when you realize you're beating your head against a wall and you stop and try to come up with a different method of finding a spouse?? I can't see the reasoning for playing this deadly game.
