How do I get a punchy metal snare sound?

Ok I have the standard snare that comes with a basic 5-piece drumset, I also have the standard Remo heads that come with it as well. But i want a gutsy punchy snare sound that bands like Breaking Benjamin and other alternative metal bands have. So how do I tune it to get it to sound like that? Or do I need a different type of head and/or snare drum?
